Ultrasound
An ultrasound exam is an medical test that uses sound waves to create images of the inside of your body. During the exam, a small handheld device called a transducer is placed on your skin and moved over the area of your body that your doctor wants to see. The transducer sends sound waves into your body, which bounce back and are detected by the device. These sound waves are used to create real-time images of the area being examined.
Ultrasound exams are often used to examine organs and tissues inside the body, such as the heart, liver, and kidneys. They are also used during pregnancy to check on the health of the fetus. The exam is painless and non-invasive, and there is no radiation exposure involved. Your doctor will use the images created during the exam to help diagnose any issues and determine the best course of treatment for you.
